  The DV1 is DeVilbiss's flagship refinish gun, and the Basecoat version is built specifically for laying down colour — solvent or waterborne. The airflow was redesigned from scratch rather than carried over from the GTi, and it shows most on the difficult work: metallics, pearls and low-VOC materials that punish a lesser gun with mottling and patchy coverage.

  Painters tend to notice two things first. The gun is light and well balanced, so a full day in the booth is less punishing on the wrist. And the fan is even edge to edge, which means fewer passes and less material to achieve coverage — the sort of saving that pays for the gun over a year.

  Choosing your fluid tip and air cap

  As a rule of thumb: 1.1–1.2mm for light metallic colour, 1.3mm as the all-round bodyshop choice, 1.4mm and above for heavier basecoat and sealer. B is the standard basecoat cap; B+ gives a slightly wider fan and suits larger panels and full resprays. If you are unsure, ring us — we would rather get it right first time than have you send it back.
